Working with professional documentarians, participants will use footage from a documentary about family caregiving during illness to find creative ways to tell different stories with the same footage. This exercise will teach video editing techniques using free web-based software and will highlight the importance of creative selection and sequencing in storytelling. The group will also discuss the truthfulness of nonfiction visual forms like documentaries and the film’s themes of family relationships and caregiving. This program is useful for both first-time film editors and more experienced filmmakers. A high-quality filmmaking accessory will be awarded to the workshop’s best participant-made short film, which will be featured on the documentary’s website. Light dinner offerings will be provided.
