Green Peeps Book Club: The Overstory

6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Other
Join this book club to discuss nature-focused reads each month. You'll also learn how to become more ecologically-minded through activities and speakers designed to enhance our reading. This month, join us for a tree identification lesson at Winslow Woods Park (2301 S. Highland Ave.) with retired tree farmer Ray Major, who specialized in growing trees from seed. We will be discussing The Overstory by Richard Powers. You either love this book, or it's been on your TBR list since it won the Pulitzer prize for fiction in 2019. We'll bring the blankets, and you bring any chairs or sun protection you might need!

Summary:
Told in six interconnecting stories, Powers draws readers into the quiet, dynamic, intelligent lives of the trees that we live around and beneath. From poetic descriptions of the biological processes trees go through, to the narrative arcs of each of the characters, The Overstory is a novel you won’t forget. Please join us for some invigorating conversations as we wake back up from our winter hibernation.

Age 18 and up. Please register.
