With funding from a generous bequest from Marian Armstrong, The Friends of the Library proudly presents Our Voice: Celebrating the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Awards. This exhibit, curated by the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature, features 34 prints of illustrations from the award winners since 1973. These award-winning illustrations and children’s books highlight stories and figures from Black history, honoring the triumphs and struggles of African Americans throughout time. They also evoke the beautiful facets integral to the culture and fabric of our nation such as music, rhythm, and folktales. Learn more.

Introductory Arabic: World Language and Culture Class with IU Bridges

Lessons are presented by certified instructors with Bridges, a project of the IU School of Global and International Studies and the IU School of Education. The class will not meet on March 19. Ryder Films presents Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am. This artful and intimate meditation on the legendary storyteller examines her life, her works, and the powerful themes she has confronted throughout her literary career. This movie is rated PG-13.
Dr. Amoah-Ramey with the Department of African American & African Diaspora Studies at Indiana University will introduce the film and lead a short discussion afterward.
This free movie screening is a Friends of the Library program that is part of the 2022 Power of Words initiative bringing author Jacqueline Woodson to Bloomington for a talk at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater on February 5 and the Marian Armstrong Exhibit, Our Voice: Celebrating the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Awards on display at the Downtown Library February 1–March 20.
