New English speakers will practice everyday language skills in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. Learners will enjoy friendly conversation, learn about daily life in the U.S., gain confidence, and meet new people from around the world.
Intermediate English skills are suggested. If you do not speak English, please fill out the VITAL Services form to learn about programs for beginners. Conversation Groups are drop-in and no registration is needed.
If you have not attended a VITAL program before, please stop by the office for more information (Downtown Library, second floor).
In 2024, the Bloomington Storytellers Guild is celebrating 50 years of storytelling. In the 1970s, there was a reawakening of interest in and appreciation for the oral tradition of storytelling—not story reading, but telling a tale in one’s own words with one’s own perspective. MCPL was the birthplace of BSG as a group of librarians and other interested tellers dreamed of sharing the oral storytelling tradition with the community. 50 years later, join the Guild storytellers for a warm, cozy evening of stories and songs from this tradition and let the story celebration begin! Age 12 and up.
This program is in partnership with the Bloomington Storytellers Guild.
