1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a program encouraging you to read 1,000 books with your child before they start kindergarten. The program is self-paced and you decide how often and how long you will read to your child. It can take anywhere from a few months to a few years. When you register for the program, you can come pick up a welcome packet, including a finger puppet and physical reading logs to color in! There will also be occasional surprises throughout the game, like stickers, a halfway-there certificate, and more (you can even earn a happy dance with a librarian)! When you finish the program, you’ll receive a graduation certificate, an invite to a quarterly themed storytime, a free book, and a farm friend adoption kit (just a stuffie, not a real one). Sign up online.

Engineers design, build, and maintain various complex systems and materials around us. In this series of workshops led by STEM professionals at Indiana University, tweens will work with their caregivers to identify problems, negotiate ideas, test, and improve their products using LED lights, motors, and other materials! 

September 11: Design a shoe for Olaf, Hulk, or your favorite character 
September 25: Give a new life to an old toy 
October 9: Build a safe house for stray animals 
October 23: Create a soccer bot 

IU instructors will help you enjoy the making process and invite your participation in ongoing research about how families help children learn engineering concepts. Please register your child and indicate the name of the adult attending with them. Ages 8–12 with an adult caregiver. Please register. (Masks are required for all participants age 3 and up.)
